Game crashing when alt tabbing (Realms, 1.16)

The bug:
Ever since the 1.16 update came out, if I alt tab out of the game (fullscreen), it crashes the game and causes it to restart with an "Error: Game crashed" message. I am using a Realms world. It has not ever crashed for me before the update.

How to reproduce:

• Open Minecraft and join a realm
• Make sure it is fullscreen
• Alt tab to another window (desktop, Chrome etc.), wait a few seconds, open the Minecraft window again and the game will have crashed. It is nearly impossible to return to the game without it crashing and needing to restart.
