Version Drop Down Menu For Installation Tab Glitch

I'm trying to access a 1.15.2 server from the new Minecraft launcher. I've taken all of the steps shown in tutorials to launch 1.15.2 instead of the current 1.16 I have downloaded: going to the "Installations" tab and selecting "+ New". Yet when I click on, hover over, or select the crucial "Version" box for what I'm trying to do, nothing pops up. I can't type anything, or even see any options... all that appears is a white outline around the box. I've tried restarting my computer, restarting the launcher, and even re-downloading the launcher, but it stays the same. My friends are able to do it, and yet I can't. It may be because I'm on a mac system and they aren't, but I'm just not sure.
