unemployed villagers wont turn into a weaponsmith if a grindstone is on the wall/ceiling

i put a grindstone for a villager to turn into a weaponsmith but he didn't turn into one because it was on the wall, i put it on the floor and he took the job. tried to put it on a ceiling but didn't work either
