Left and right mouse function issue

I was unable to obtain useful screenshots of the issue

My left and right mouse functions ceased working normally in the middle of playing. I have my defaults set to right/place left/destroy but if I use them while holding my mouse in place they open the escape menu (settings, exit etc.) When I am holding my mouse still the crosshairs have a gap in the middle and appear as four dots spaced at what would be the ends of the crosshairs. When I move my mouse to look around the crosshairs blink rapidly back and forth between normal crosshairs, an outline of the crosshairs and regular mouse cursor. If I use the mouse buttons while moving my view they function normally. I checked my control settings and they are at default. I checked to see if it was my mouse but it functions normally outside of minecraft.
