When jumping up on a path block player runs into an invisible "wall"

If I place a path block one block up from where I'm currently standing, then try to jump up on that path block I run into an invisible "wall" of sorts, akin to when you get a ghost block.

You can walk around the wall and you can jump up onto it again which remedies the problem.
