Unable to destroy blocks using a sword

What I expected to happen was...:
for the block to break upon clicking on it once.

What actually happened was...:
it acted as if I was in survival, and tried to mine the block.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into creative mode and take out a sword.
2. Attempt to break a block, it will not break it and only appear as if you are trying to mine it.
