compass does not work in creative mode

The compass does not work at all, the red arrow in the compass just points down, no matter which direction I look.
Also, if I give myself a compass in creative mode and then turn to survivel mode (/gamemode 0) it still does not work. However, when I craft a compass in survivel mode, it works. Really confusing.
It works perfectly in default, maybe it is the texture pack I use? (Misa's 1.5)
