Lead stays on fence post after breaking

I rode my horse while it was still attached to a fence using a lead. The lead broke while I was still riding the horse, and dropped as an item. However, the lead still appeared on the fence post it was previously attached to.  In the picture below, the lead on the fence post isn't attached to a mob and the one on the ground just broke from the fence post.
