Crouching does not help on slabs and stairs

when I sneak/crouch on the edge of a slab or a stair, I just fall of the block. I am sure it is not because of there are blocks under the slab/stair or on the corner or side of that block (for example a staircase), because of when I was building with slabs right now, I were high above the ground.
