Recipe Search doesn't "select" when clicked on

When opening the inventory in Minecraft and using the Recipe Book. Clicking on the Recipe Search does not automatically allow you to type. You must press T or Enter (or whatever your chat key is bound to) in order to type. I'm not sure if this was intentional. It seems like it's a bug.
