Striders spawn and are stuck at a certain y level

When exploring the nether, I came across a group of striders. Some were acting normally, but 2 were floating mid-air (without any lava waterfall nearby).
I approached them and punched of the floating ones to see what'll happen, and he was pushed away from me while retaining his position in the y axis.
