2x2 trees won't grow near chunk borders

Any 2x2 trees (Mega Spruce, Dark Oak, Jungle) won't grow within two blocks of a chunk border. I tested each corner and side of a chunk, and they wont grow on the south side, southwest corner, north side, and northwest corner. Everywhere else in the chunk seems to work.
