Zombies DO NOT pickup items

What I expected to happen was...:

I drop an item near zombie and it picks the item up.

What actually happened was...:

Instead, the item remained on the ground. Tested with multiple zombies. As well as Zombie villagers. Also with naturally generated (Night time) and spawn eggs.

Steps to Reproduce:

1: Find a zombie or spawn zombie in with egg.
2: Drop item near them
3: Await the zombie to not pick item up
