Pillagers despawn during raid

During the final wave of a rade, the Evoker riding the Ravager, the Vindicator riding the ravager, and both ravagers despawned during the raid. I'm not sure if this is a natural thing but one despawned, and after a few minutes the other despawned. The evoker one killed me and when i respawned in my bed a few blocks away, it was just gone, The vindicator one was standing there, then the ravager was gone. Then i saw the vindicator disappear. It was daytime during a thunderstorm in the desert
