Sound for picking up an arrow doesn't play immediately after exiting nether portal

The bug

After shooting an arrow through a nether portal, I entered the portal and immediately picked up the arrow after exiting, but no sound played even though the subtitle Item Plops had shown up, indicating that the sound had played.
