Water Source Blocks are not being formed back after they are picked up with a Bucket

I am setting up a mob farm in my Survival World. I currently have 11 water source blocks in a line along the z axis. When I try to pick up the water source block using a bucket, it works but the source block is not replaced by another one afterwards. It should be replaced because there are two source blocks on either side of a 1 block gap.
