Striders Floating/Not Climbing Blocks

When playing in a survival multiplayer world, I have not been able to find a Strider that was able to climb one-high block, or even out of lava. Once a Strider is walking at a higher Y-level, they remain there even if there are no blocks beneath the Strider or the player riding the Strider.
