Throwing Items is wrong

When dismounting a strider, you throw items wrong. 

 

The items can be thrown from your left or right, but are never thrown straight 

 

In the screen shot below, notice the item next to the strider

 

I hit Q from where I was standing and it appeared right there

Also, some striders spawn with saddles? Is that a feature?
