Mac Laptop setup with x-box controller - controller works with all games apart from MC

Hello,

Ive just bought Minecraft: Java Edition for Mac OS.

We currently use a x-box controller on all other non mac games successfully and before buying the game did some research that said this was supported by Mojang.

Could you please advise me of the fix, Ive been through the seetings on MC but not had any luck
