Striders float in air when leaving a lava fall

I was in Creative mode, trying out the new features, and started to ride a Strider. I brought it to a vertical lava fall to try and bring it to the land above, and it slowly rose while in that lava. What I found out is that they don't fall back down when leaving the lava fall, instead just floating in the air. They can still be manipulated around but won't obey gravity.
