Redstone not properly updating on redirection

What I did:

I placed a redstone dust next to a piston and then redirected using a repeater

 

What shoud have happened:

When the redstone is redirected, it updates the piston and it retracts

When you update, this goes away

 

How to reproduce:

Place a redstone block, then a redstone which points into a piston

Redirect the redstone away from the piston via a repeater

Notice the piston stays active

The same also works in reverse, as shown in the pictures
