If you bind a compass to a lodestone in the overworld, and then go to the nether, the compass will break and vice-versa.

Let's say you're in Dimension A, with a compass assigned to a lodestone in the same dimension. If you go to the Dimension B, the compass will break. Basically, if you go to a different dimension from where you originally binded your compass, it'll break.
