You can not use your cursor to interact with the UI while alternative recipes are displayed

To reproduce:

1. Give yourself a stack of bone blocks and a stack of bones
2. Open the recipe book
3. Right-click the bone meal recipe
4. Try to pick up an item from your inventory with your cursor

Note that even though your cursor produces hover effects on buttons and inventory slots, you don't actually pick up the item in step 4 - it only closes the alternative recipe list.
