Gold or Iron Ingots dissapear into white particles when put in item frames

Upon attempting to place a gold or iron ingot in an item frame, the item and frame will dissapear into white particles. Entering spectator mode will show an armor stand wearing the ingot as a headplate, but the stand is invisible. It only seems to affect these two items, however.
