Mobs seem to escape upon relog in SMP when ompressed into small spaces and covered by transparent blocks (glass)

I went afk at a skeleton spawner farm for a while, then logged off. Upon relog some of the skeletons had escaped the glass cage they were in and were everywhere. Most had remained in the glass cage but seem to escape every time I relog.
