Placing Beds on Upside Down Slabs

I was attempting to create a design in which I would cut down on building height by using upside down slabs for both floors and ceilings. The result of this was quite successful until I encountered this glitch; It is impossible to place a bed on any of the upside down slabs. After I had tested it on all types of Wood, Stone, Brick, and Sandstone I concluded that it indeed was not just the failure of a specific block type. This could be replicated on servers, in creative mode and in single player.
