Random closing and opening of Minecraft when it is unresponsive

I am trying to open up an adventure map in Minecraft singleplayer. It becomes really slow and laggy and finally becomes unresponsive. While I wait for it to become responsive it closes the window, then opens it again. I also want for it to stop lagging.
