wall not connecting/making pillar

when i have a wall and run another one over it in the other direction (1st wall north sourh 2nd wall east west) they will not connect.

i added some screenshots

first one (2020-02-15_23.31.05.png) is how i would expect them to connect i achieved this with string on top
