Missing sound for grass blocks, trees, doors

This started with no plop sounds occasionally when I'd place a silk touch-mined redstone block to mine with a fortune pick. I thought it was odd but I figured it was a momentary glitch. Now when I walk on grass or jumping around on the top of trees there are no footstep sounds. To test it out just now after F3+S and F3+T, restarting multiple times, reloading the original resource pack... I exited my mine and the door didn't make a sound either and now all tree sounds are gone - no chopping of wood or leaves. Sand sound steps are on but the moment I move to grass it goes quiet and I get the pops from saplings and sticks but not from the actual busting of leaves or chopping wood.

I play vanilla with no packs - basically when I got with the original download - if that helps. I haven't changed any settings - this started a couple days ago.
