Tamed Animals Acting "Untamed"

I'm on a server, so I'm not sure if it could be something with that, but I logged into the game and I just tried to sit up my dog and parrots and they wouldn't sit up. I relogged, went into the Nether and came back, and used a water bucket to move them. Then I hit my dog and it started to attack me as if it were still wild. Once it calmed down, I thought, "well maybe I can give it a bone." and so I gave it a bone and it tamed itself to me with the collar color I'd previously given it. The same thing happened with the parrots when I fed them seeds.

It's really bizarre.

What should happen: Tamed animals should stay tamed.
What happened: Tamed animals became "untamed" and unable to be sat up until feeding with their respective taming foods.
