Getting in boats while under them in a bubble column suffocates you

I had a bubble column using soul sand. I placed a boat over the column. While in the column I got into the boat. I then started taking damage as if I was suffocating in a block until I got out of the boat. Dying to this gives the death message of "___ suffocated in a wall". A video of the bug can be found here https://youtu.be/DxL8n3HCp8g . It appears to happen most if only the edge of the boat is above you, not the middle. Driving the boat away from the bubble column sometimes stops you from suffocating, but not always.

What I expected to happen was...:
I get in the boat and don't die

What actually happened was...:
I got in the boat but started to take block suffocation damage

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build a bubble column with soulsand.
2. Place a boat over the top, blocking you from exiting.
3. Go into the column and wait until you are pressed into the boats bottom, then get in the boat.

4. Sometimes it doesn't work right away, moving a tiny bit will start damaging you.
