Empty space generated in mineshaft system

When exploring a mineshaft I came across a weird open space. It seems like something was meant to be there but was never generated. The floor is dirt and all mineshafts leading to it are instantly cut off. This could have nothing to do with the mineshaft and could have been a spawner.
