Have to double click in menu and mouse pointer stays on the screen when playing

When on the menu page on Mac Catalina I need to double-click before being able to enter one of the options. This is most problematic when changing control options as it automatically assigns the process to the left click whenever I try to change it.

Also, when playing, the mouse pointer is not hidden as is usual and drifts around the screen.
