Rain renders through blocks while picking up an item

Rain renders through blocks for a few frames while picking up an item and seems to not happen on blocks that are more than 9 blocks away.

to reproduce:

1. build a wall or roof, preferably in a flat area.
2. make it rain.
3. pick up an item while looking at your wall or roof.
