"Respawn point set" appears when clicking on a bed in hardcore mode

When left-clicking on a bed in hardcore mode (having previously left clicked on a bed somewhere else or not at all before), the game says "Respawn point set". I'm unsure if this is a bug, since you do respawn in hardcore, if only in spectator mode, but it doesn't seem like an intended feature.
