Boats on top of mobs creates incorrect behavior

When a boat falls onto a mob, if the player enters the boat, the player starts slowly falling through the mob, until reaching the ground (or water in the case of the video). The player then teleports back up. The player can destroy the boat while inside it, leading me to believe the game thinks that the player is both in and out of the boat.
