Ender dragon stuck when far away from the player

When i was fighting the ender dragon i noticed this whenever he goes far away from me

he was just stuck there until i came to him then he was back to normal but everytime he goes far away he would just be stuck in mid-air doing he's flying animations without going anywhere.I think its a bug because even i relog or relaunch minecraft he is still stuck
