Bees and Beehives do not naturally generate in Amplified Worlds

As the title states, bees and beehives appear to be unavailable in Amplified worlds, usually requiring the use of creative mode to get bees into amplified worlds. However I'm unsure what causes this, but a guess is the extreme terrain throws off generation.
