Strange Mining animation

Whenever I mine a block, strange and random lines appear on said block. These lines are mostly either long horizontal strokes or rotated versions of the standard animation that follow my cursor. These appeared shortly after downloading the newest snapshot, and I would appreciate a bit of help.
