Redstone Dust Pickup Issue

When I mine Redstone blocks with an iron or gold pickaxe, the smaller blocks for collection show up and i run over and pick them up, and it makes the "you picked that up" sound, but they keep not showing up in my inventory. I have found evidence online of this happening to other people, but no solutions beside deleting the world and starting over.
