"Not So Sticky Pistons"?

When I use a double piston extender, if I deactivate it, it won't pull the block back. They are sticky pistons. This also happens when I pull a piston back with a piston. Finally, sticky pistons do not hold sand and gravel if the pistons are on a wall.
