Bee Hives that i can craft do not collect honey with any number of bees

The bees arent making honey in the bee hive (the craftable one) the honey level stays at 0

What I expected to happen was...:
bees would collect pollen and turn it into honey for my bee farm

What actually happened was...:
they went in and out 100s of times and nothing happened

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a bee hive
2. lure a bee and destroy its home
3. flowers and wait
