Shift click while using a crafting table transfers items to the crafting slots instead of other player inventory slots

What I expected to happen was...:
while using workbench shift click from hotbar should transfer item up from hotbar to player inventory

What actually happened was...:
Shift click transferred items from hotbar to empty workbench slots similar to shift clicking in a chest. Also transferred from player inventory to workbench slots. 

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Interact with workbench
2. Shift click item in player inventory
