Totally Bizzare Spawn Chunk Generation

I hopped on the opportunity to play the new snapshot and was greeted by... these... lovely sights (below).

I along with multiple mobs and blocks spawned about 100 blocks in the air. Right on world generation. Good thing I was in creative, eh?

I have absolutely no clue what is is and have never seen it in vanilla. Ever.

Happy bug-squashing! (not the bees though, I like the bees )
