Game freezes, "loading terrain" only when going through Nether portal

Upon entering the Nether portal the game goes to loading terrain screen and freezes. I have waited long periods of time and still nothing. I have to reboot PC to get the game unfrozen. This has been going on sense the first 1.14 update. I have dismantled portals, the one time I made it to the nether. Just leaving my first original portal. Still no change. I deleted my world and started fresh. In the new world, I just made and entered the Nether portal 24hrs ago and it has done the same thing. Very disconcerting, I deleted my first world I started (OCT. 2018) for nothing.
