I can't place blocks on oak leaves

Whenever I try to place a block on an oak leaf block, it appears to be there for a split second, but then it disappears and says that the block was never placed.
I found this bug when I was trying to build a tree house in an oak tree. I'm not sure if this bug exists with other leaf types.
