Pasting into Minecraft doesn't work v1.14 Ubuntu 19.04

Pasting into MC command aka the "/" prompt does not work. Trying to paste commands and/or coordinates into the command prompt. Have tried just random jibberish within minecraft as well - something like /test 123, selecting this text, hitting ctrl-c, deleting the text, opening a command prompt again ("/"), and hitting ctrl-v. Nothing happens. It's like the keymapping for ctrl-c and ctrl-v is completely ignored.
