Breaking animation shown when not breaking block

When breaking a block and stopping half way through, the animation froze.

 

Situation: Mining concrete with right hand, placing with left. I was mining with an efficiency 5 pickaxe and with haste 2 beacon. I would hold both mouse buttons down to mine/place. If I let go half way through, there was a chance the breaking animation would freeze in place and remain for a bit before disappearing. I reproduced it again 3 times. Exact set up seen in picture.
