Ore's Do Not Drop XP No More?

Myself, and my girlfriend have not played Minecraft for a couple months, and we seen a new update for it. So we got into our Minecraft Gaming Moods, and after 20 minutes of playing, we realized we were not receiving any XP from our ores. Example: Coal, Redstone, Lapis, and Diamonds. But we get XP from cooking in the oven like Iron or Gold. 

I do not understand if it is a bug or that the patch just simply takes that privilege away? Because Mining was the best XP Leveler that was the easiest. Just it took a long time to get to 30 XP to enchant.

I find it sort of unfair. Especially for people who just like to mine to get XP. ( Experience Points)

If this is just a bug, please fix this soon. If this is part of the patch update, then it was just plain stupid.
