Pillagers spawn inside of leaves on top of logs

While on our server yesterday I noticed a pack of pillagers. I didn't think a lot and killed the ones in the water and was ready to move along then I heard more pillager sounds. I did some searching and discovered that they were trapped inside the leaves. There were no air blocks where they were trapped. just the leaves. I only took a picture of one.
